Boom Shaka Lacka!

@Barrio Central
Basement bar
6 Poland Street
Soho, London W1
8pm - 1am, free!

Boom Shaka Lacka! was launched in August 2009 out of love for Black music from the late 50's to the early 70's,
with the accent on Jamaican music - a must for 45 years of Noting Hill Gate Carnival this year! This is a prime
destination for Carnival weekend and all music will be played from original vinyl. Expect brass-mad Ska, soulful
Rocksteady, early boss Reggae - the Sound of Young Jamaica, alongside 50's & 60's R'n'B & Soul - early Motown
to early Funk, as well as a dash of Jazz, Latin Bugalu & Calypso.

Resident DJ's Giordano Di Stasio & Freddie Boom Boom will be joined by top-notch Black music specialist DJs Liam
Large (Jukebox Jam) and Hiroshi Third Ball (Nuclear Weapon / Riddim Chango FM) for an explosive cocktail of vintage
Boom! choons.

This is taking place in the fun basement at Barrio Central, an ace Soho venue designed perfectly for the night -
tropical decor supported by exquisite cocktails and Caribbean-influenced food!

Great basement bar, party and relaxed atmosphere, cool crowd & staff, top notch music on original vinyl, central
London and totally free!

Sat 19th February 2011:

We teamed up with ace Mod organisers Pork & Beans in February for an outstanding night of R'n'B, Soul, Reggae, Latin Jazz, Ska, Rock Steady, Popcorn in Brixton. The result was nearly 8 hours of fierce partying and joy in the safety of a time capsule - the first floor room of the Dog Star. Outstanding sound system, friendly atmosphere, and top notch choons! We are now trying to book another one before Summer! Stay tuned.

Boom Shaka Lacka! First Anniversary! Thursday 26th August 2010

Boom Shaka Lacka! Our First Anniversary!

Yes, it has been one jolly year of Boom Shaka Lacka!
Started as a pre-Carnival session, the night has developed into a very popular end of the week session attended by fans and friends of Jamaican and Black American music. A big big thanks you to all our regulars for making it what it is! Mega thank you to all the guest DJ's we have had this year.

For this occasion, we invited Tommaso (Italy) for a prime selection of R'n'B and Soul. Tommaso is the epitome of the New Breed that has blessed the Mod scene in recent years. His record collection, started in 2005 (he's only 21!), is one of the most interesting in Europe. Tommaso is well known for looking out for lesser known titles and getting them popular on the scene.

A promoter of the Shifts To Come party (October 2007) and The Italian Mod New Years Eve 2008 in Arezzo (Tuscany), he regularly plays in Italian Mod clubs and has also been invited as a guest-DJ to:

No Way Out - Manchester (2009),
The Boiler Club - Barcelona, Spain (2009),
All Saints Mod Weekender - Lavarone, Italy (2009),
The Italian Job Mod Weekender - Rimini, Italy (2010).

He surely will help create a killer atmosphere at August's Boom Shaka Lacka!

Join us all for a big party of 5t's & 6t's RnB/Soul, 6t's Ska/Rock Steady/Reggae.
This session will be very popular, please make it early!

Boom Shaka Lacka! - Friday 12th February 2010

Friday 12th February 2010
7pm-11pm

Our first 2010 date was scheduled on a Friday evening. What a mad and wicked night! Probably our busiest session ever!

We included a tribute to Lyn Taitt by playing a large selection of tracks he produced, created or played on - from Ska to Reggae, especially his trademark style on Rock Steady, which he was a key player (if not inventor) of - check out our special mix below.

We were visited by a German TV documentary film crew - can't wait to see the result (this will not be a documentary on Boom Shaka Lacka though, maybe next time!).
In spite of a compact crowd, some dancefloor action was taking place, and the camera-man loved it (he happened to be a Reggae fan, so ended up filming quite a lot of the dancing and of the records spinning on the decks!)...

Thanks to all of you who made it so special!
Have a look at the pics on our Facebook group.
